State Of the Union Address
"You’re either part of the problem or part of the solution" - Eldredge Cleaver - From the Pope to the President, it is eminent that talks of peace have been in the forefront of their agendas. Prominent men taking charge to leave a long lasting legacy that would benefit not just them, but affect the lives of individuals GLOBALLY. Father’s Day is upon us and from my perspective conflict, followed by communication can sometimes bring about positive results. As the head of the household, male or female (single moms who fulfill both roles), say what you mean to say and employ common sense to receive the behavioral results you desire. Parenting does not come with a set of rules and instructions, but build upon your own positive experiences to insure positive outcomes. With 60% of our young Black men incarcerated, 46% of our young people opting out of high school before receiving their diploma, 33% of teens becoming parents before their 2nd year of high school, we have got to do a better job to encourage our teens that there is a better way. Fathers, take a stand, make a choice to be part of the solution.Become a mentor in a program, volunteer at the boys and girls clubs, coach a sports team etc. Talk to your children and their friends when they visit. Make it your business to offer active positive advice to all who are within earshot to listen. Remember Dads, service is the rent we pay for living so give back and elevate one person, one community at a time. It takes a village to raise a child! Happy Father's Day Eddie W. Eye Herpes or Ocular Herpes Did you know that an estimated 400,000 persons have experienced some form of OCULAR HERPES with close to 50,000 new and recurring cases in the U.S. annually. EYE HERPES is caused by type 1 herpes simplex and there are several forms of OCULAR HERPES.
2. Stromal Keratitis - This infection goes deeper into the layers of the cornea. This is the leading cause of corneal scarring that subsequently causes blindness in the U.S... Caused most likely by a late immune response to the original infection. 3. Iridocyclitis - This affects the iris and the surrounding inflamed tissues inside the eye causing severe sensitivity to light, blurred vision, pain and redness. This condition affects more of the anterior(front) portion of the eye. 4. Worth mentioning is Herpes Retinitis which is an inflammation of the retina (Inside lining of the posterior portion of the eye). EYE HERPES - is caused by a person having an outbreak transmitting the disease to another individual or you can self contaminate during an active herpes outbreak. (i.e. cold sore) The herpes virus enters the body through the nose or the mouth and travels into the nerves where it may be inactive. Outbreaks are triggered by fever, stress, sunburn, major dental or surgical procedures. Once you have an outbreak, you have a 40-50% chance of it reoccurring. Treating the Ocular Herpes it can normally be alleviated by using antiviral eye drops or ointments or antiviral pills. Steroid drops can decrease inflammation and prevent corneal scarring. Steroid drops are almost always used in conjunction with antiviral drops. Surgery will be required if severe scarring is permanent on the cornea. Worst case scenario would be a corneal transplant to restore vision. CAMP CREEK BULLETIN BOARD
